You know how sometimes when God is trying to pass across a message to you but you don't first get it, he would sound the word in your head over and over again till you get it. When you open your bible, you would see the word. You listen to a sermon you hear the word. You read a blog like this, it jumps at you again. Then you go on social media and its all over Facebook and Instagram and you're like okay God I finally get it, you're trying to tell me something here... I hear you now!!!
That's exactly what happened to me the other day, I kept hearing & seeing the sermon about Mary and Martha in Luke 10: 38-41. How Jesus came to visit them and Martha was overly concerned about making Jesus a delicious meal, she was distracted by the big dinner she was making for Jesus and was upset that her sister Mary wasn't helping. Mary had gone to sit at Jesus' feet, focusing on him and listening to what he taught. Martha came out upset, saying Lord doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits there while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.
But Jesus said to her, "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it and it will not be taken away from her." When I first heard this sermon from a podcast I listen to, I heard an interpretation of it which didn't resonate with me, so I didn't give it so much thought. Then as I kept seeing this sermon everywhere I turned to, I had to pause for a minute and said okay I should go to my bible I read this scripture for myself because I am not understanding why I keep seeing it, it doesn't resonate with me. I quickly jumped into the scripture, like today na today, I must understand this thing. I read it from verse one to the end the first time because I didn't want to leave any stone unturned, but I got even more confused because it still didn't resonate with me. That's what happens when you try to understand God's word with your natural mind. So I had to say a little prayer, like "God I keep seeing this scripture, I don't get it but I know there's something you're trying to tell me here, please help me understand"
And just like magic, I read it the second time and my eyes were opened to the truth behind it. The part where Jesus said: "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it and it will not be taken away from her." That has been the message all along.
Has God made you a promise? Are you waiting on him for something? Are there things you are seeing around you that make it appear impossible? Are you overly concerned and distracted by the details of how impossible it looks? Are you trying to help God figure out just how the promise will come to pass? Did God instruct you to go do something? Maybe start a business, follow your dreams etc. Are you worried that you may not be good enough? Are you distracted by all the issues on ground? If that's you then you're being Martha right now, you are distracted by the things that don't even matter. Instead be like Mary... she discovered what really matters and it cannot be taken away from her. What really matters is Jesus, just like Mary, fix your focus on him, on his word, on his promises to you. He gave you the instruction and promise, he will definitely help you fulfill it, if you keep your eyes fixed on him. Stop running helter skelter, God wants to take you through life. Psalm 32:8.
What you need is a perspective change, lift your perspective above the walls. Jesus didn't endure the cross by looking at it, He endured the cross because he fixed his eyes on the glory set ahead. Fix your focus on God, shut the door on distractions, by focusing on the problem, you are unconsciously worshiping it, fix your focus on only God who is worthy of worship. Discipline and instruct yourself not to nurse the issue, hold on to the truth that GOD IS ABLE TO DO IT!
